Niggun R' Zalman Zatapolski • Various

"Rabbi Tuvia Bolton is a fascinating person; not your typical artist, by any means."

So begins the completely absorbing interview between JewishMusicReport.com writer "Hislahavus" and Rabbi Tuvia Bolton. In it, R' Tuvia delivers a raw peek into his soul-journey and the niggun that hooked him.

Eventually, in 1971, I met up with a chassid named R’ Itche Meir Kagan. And he took me to the Rebbe. I lived in Detroit, and we drove 12 hours to New York. I went into the farbrengen, that Shabbos. I heard them sing a niggun when I went in, called the Niggun of R’ Zalman Zlatopolsky...
I heard this nigun, and it knocked me out. READ MUCH MORE

It truly is a knock-out niggun. And to think "they didn't used to sing this niggun at Farbregens." But a young Jew was itching to be knocked out.

With a humble request to R' CK to please share what you can about this story from the Detroit end.

Full niggun sung by R' Dovid Horowitz (two complete versions with Yiddish explanation before each).

The Mitteler Rebbe's Kapelye • Totally Chassidic / Yaron Gershovsky

Not sure why the Frierdiker Rebbe's photo is featured in this video. Today is the Day of Redemption of the second Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Dovber, known after his passing as The Mitteler (Middle) Rebbe.

Monday Matchup ::
Yaakov Meets Eisav • Yonatan Razel/Nichoach

We've done this before, but it's still so good!

We've never done this before. It's so good.

UPDATE: A number of people mentioned that they were concerned with the title of this post. In my haste to post and run, I did not delve into the possible meaning. It is, unfortunately, quite humorous. The matchup was certainly not supposed to be Yaakov meeting Eisav.

A Gut Yohr • Piamentas (1991)

Morrocco meets Mezhibuzh. As the cover says, "A Piamenta Production". Lchaim! Tantz, tantz, tantz!

Shoshanas Yaakov • Lubavitch UK Boys Choir

Composed by R' Sholom Charitonov of Nikolayev

Yaale • Yaron Gershovsky

With the same intro and arrangements as "Tatte bistu..." sung by Avraham Fried. Why mess with magic? Off of "A nigun is forever" one in a series of piano recordings—I think in the late 90s—of Chabad nigunnim performed by Yaron Gershovsky.

On Motz"sh, my brother gave me a shopping bag full of cassettes, this one among them. As luck and my paycheck would have it, I have a cassette player in my car and have been enjoying some listens to the not-so-new and the very exceptional.

One cassette from my kid-years that I miss: Achva, one of Abie Rotenberg's early groups. According to my opinion and memory, Yeedle's "Li'olam lo eshkach" on III Shiru Lamelech is an original Achva.

Enjoy!

Tzomo Lecha Nafshi

UPDATE: I've somewhat wondered how everyone in 770 knew instinctively that this Niggun would be sung by the Rebbe alone. In this clip, you briefly hear a child who didn't (right after the Rebbe sings the first bar).

Haneiros Halalu • The Chassidic House Party feat. Choni G

If ShirShelYom exists for a single reason, that single reason is this. For a quick-fix, watch from 5:05, then again from 7:05.

The Chassidic House Party has arrived for very, very good, my friends. Recorded on Samsung Galaxy by SSY Contibutor Levi.

Niggun Simcha • Akiva ben Horin

The name I have seen countless times... scrolling through my music drive, quickly past the Aidan & Dotan and past Aleichem V'aleinu (Oif Simchos). And this has been sandwiched between those two all these years. Listen to him breathe between fluting. A keyboard cannot well replicate that sound.

And see/hear him in a 1991 recital.

Asader • Chabad Centennial Celebration

It's not a song, it's an introduction to Shabbos. Gut Shabbos, Gut Chodesh!
