There is so little musically, vocally or philosophically redeeming about this persistent project to interjecterlaymonize Jewish songs that already contain strains of current pop with other current pop tunes seemingly selected by key association. This song in particular proves the point as the Pellas make such scarce use of the Mary Poppins song as to announce "This. Does. Not. Fit. But it does have similar composition and we wanted you to know."
Plus, what does this have to do with Sefiras Ha'omer?

V'Shomru (Carlebach) • Yehuda Solomon
But I do have good news...
Shabbos is coming, and we will sense the Beis Hamikdash in our hearts, so we will want the Beis Hamikdosh in our minds, so we will build the Beis Hamikdosh with our hands and see it with our own eyes and dance inside it, listen to its music and praise Hashem, Hallelu-y-a! Now!
Have a joyous and meaningful Shabbos, easy and fast. If you must.

Vehoyu Limshisa • THE Chevra
"THE preeminent Jewish boy band today!"
— Ber Boimel, Spotlight on Music
Someone once told me that R' Shlomo Carlebach once noted to or about Avraham Fried "I don't mind if people copy my songs. I just mind if they ruin them." Or something.
I think it was about this song. **Now more ruined than ever!**
Ach, these 9 Days. Are you happy now, Roman conquerors? ARE YOU HAPPY NOW???

Yedid Nefesh • Itsi Kleinfeld/Tzvi Silberstein
The good thing about this song is that it is so exceptional that even a not very good acapella version is still technically pretty awesome. Cuz the song is, see.
Itsi Kleinfeld was born in [Judenstrasse Shpitol] Antwerp, Belgium, [at 7:11 and 22 seconds] on October 7th, 1979. See more. I dare you.

Shades of Acapella • Yossi Green - Shades of Green
This track was naturally selected by the 9 Days themselves, which have proved surprisingly resilient in rejecting any *NSYNC, Bon Jovi or Mariah Perry in Jewish drag, a.k.a., AKA Pella. Grrrr.
And then there is the beauty of the two songs selected for acapella treatment: 1) Min Hameitzar composed for Shlomo Simcha, and 2) Ki Chilatzta, which I had not heard before and do not know from outside of this track. Do You?

Be Prepared • Y-Studs (Lion King)
Peretz reminded me that we are now living within the three weeks between listening to lively music and listening to more lively music. Enjoy this acapella track.

Lost • Y- Studs (Coldplay)
This "other" YU acapella is super excellent on these counts:
1) Its members sing very, very, very good.
2) They have never been on national TV.
3) They unabashedly cover non-Jewish music—unashamed that it is not "Jewish", and non-delusional about passing it off as yes.
We recommend the album, which includes unpretentious covers of "Unprepared" off Lion King, "Misplaced" by Moshav, and more.

Yofyofisa - A.K.A. Pella (covering Shalsheles)
There is much that isn't right with this post. There is time that isn't much to spend expressing it. Is "insipid" the correct word to describe the sound? Ber asks. Maybe. "Insipid" means "lacking flavor". I think this just lacks taste. I love it.
The intro is a cover of Nothing Else Matters and they--get this--called it "Yuffing Else Matters!" Blaaaaahhhurghhhhghh!!! Ehhhhhhh!!! Buuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh....llurghhh. Can The Oatmeal provide a fitting interjection for me, please?
"We're counting, we're counting the days... Today is the ei-ei-eighth day, we're on our way... from Pesach until Shavuos time... ladida don't remember the woooords..."
This post is also to prove that our blog is capable of observing the ancient practice of musicless sefira, but won't because our rabbinic overseers consider it a simple oversight.
Peace and lunch!
