About the BYU Mens Chorus

UPDATE: I actually had this following rendition in mind for its snap-happy rhythm; Googled to find it again and came up with the top one. Boy am I snap-happy for that!

The choir is Shir Soul, directed by David Ross. I danced to their music at a friend's wedding in the Five Towns last year... pure energy and love of the craft!

It's taken me all day because there are very many tracks on this recording that are worth sharing. The main point, though, is that the songs on this album are all re-worked (translated, formatted, melodized) teachings of R' Shlomo Carlebach. Which are, in turn, teachings of Judaism with the particular influence of Chassidus.


Exhibit A: One who tells Hashem "Leave me alone. You don't have to watch me constantly." Hashem says: "Biseder gamur, have a nice day!" [As for me:] oy, Aibishter, I can't do this without you.

Half of that whole Ushpizin incident. I say incident because art, it seems to me, is becoming more incidental every hour. If you'll remember the classics we were told about and re-discovered, you'll remember how they first qualified as exceptional before going platinum. Then they went multi, then they went viral and it seems viral got sick and died. 


Not that there's anything wrong with that.
