Alright, let's do this! • Poll ends tonight

Dear Friends, Fans and Followers,

A popular Jewish organization is preparing a tribute to Avraham Fried's 30 years of performing. The content director is soliciting thoughts from fans on their personal favorite songs. Let's offer the ShirShelYom collective mind on the topic, shall we?

See the poll to the right for a start. Click the "Fried" label down the right margin for more ideas. See this list of recordings for bonus thinking. Put your reflections in the comments, including your reason for choosing a given title. Poll ends this evening.

Good luck and good thinking!

  1. This is a tough one.

If they were asking "best" or "most iconic" I think it would be a never ending debate. But being that they are looking for personal favorite, makes it a little easier, for me it's Aleh Katan. Just because of timing when I first hear the song etc, nothing too deep.

  2. Although not his per se I think Yiddish Gems certainly deserves some sort of recognition...

From his own songs in no particular order:

    Selections from Shtar Hatna'im
    Selections Bracha V'Hatzlacha
    Ki HaMitzva

  3. Kayl HaHodaos
No Jew Will Be Left Behind

The songs that launched his career.

  4. Don't Hide From Me, Bracha V'hatzlacha. What expression, what nuance, you can hear him begging...
However, if the vote were on best albums, I'd vote Yiddish Gems 1 & 2. Avremel's performance has no parallel, and with R' YT Ehrlich's compositions stories and narrations, plus Yaron Gershovsky's unparalleled arrangements, these albums are must-haves. As a matter of fact, I think that if one hears these albums, he can never go off the derech or lose his emunah. The love, faith, and pride is so real.

  5. I listened to Yiddish Gems in their entirety right before I toiveled in the Ari Zal's mikvah - as a matter of fact.

If it's not worth taking credit for, it's probably not worth saying!
