National Day of Elokai Neshama

Once song, composed by Moshe Laufer and recorded by Dudu Fisher and Yehuda Exclamation Point. For years Arvanam Feed has regretted not recording it. Now he has. Let us gladly give him the cake so he need not even take it himself.

Yehuda Exclamation Point.

Dudu Fisher.

Arvanam Feed.

You tell me. Good Shabbos!

  1. I'm personally partial to Shloime Daskal's and Moshe Goldman's. Too Chassidish for you? :)

  2. How could you leave out Benny's Elokai? It's not a full arrangement, just the demo he made when he first came onto the scene, but still ...

  4. You left out the classic from Michoel Streicher (it's on Ko'ach Hatfilah)! I have it.

  5. im still a huge fan of Yehuda! ('s version). avraham Fried's version is actually pretty good. dudu fishers's is a bit to Chazzanish for my taste.

  6. Don't like Avraham Fried's rendition. Hate it actually.

He tried way to hard to make it his own...A little late..

    I totally agree.

I! love! Yehuda!'s version! the! most!

If I wrote the song, that's how I would of wanted it sung.

  8. Moe and Yammo: I should have specified in the title that this was National Day of THAT Elokai...

Shmuel: Judging only by vocals, I can understand where you are coming from... I still love Avremel's. But, I think one must judge each performance by who is performing it and why. On this CD and in this song specifically, Avremel's hartzige benkshaft and whatnot are felt through-and-through.

If you note some of the very subtle emphases on his version, you'll hear WHY he, as a Chassid, chose to emphasize them. (E.g., on the other versions, the song ends "Ata virasah, ata yitzarta, ata nifachta bee." Wonderful. Also, "Tehorah, Tehorah hee" which sounds nice but means nothing. Avremel, And from 4:30 brings the message of this first tefillah of the morning into focus: "Elokai, Elokai... Neshoma shenosata bee, Elokai, Neshoma, Tehora hee."

It is coming from a very different place. And I LOVE the Yehuda version (less so Dudu), but I am very moved by the AF one.

Finally, regarding his "coming late to the party," I've heard him say for years that he regrets never recording this song and Machnisei Rachamim when they were written and [ostensibly] offered to him.

  9. Avi: I feel like you keep defending Avremel with the same argumet: "But, I think one must judge each performance by who is performing it and why". <-- Totally untrue.

Fact is, Yehuda's version is nicer to listen to AND more hartzig, in my opinion, Avremel's feels avremelized, not hartzig.

As for the last point you make about ending the song I have two words for you: who cares. Also, Yehuda's harmonies are way better.

  10. Listened to Avremel again. Maybe because he's so late to party, (and trying so hard) that it has no (read: i dont hear/feel) chien or benkshaft.

I have to agree with everyone here, that Yehuda's rendition is really "!!!!"

  11. Really? Am I the only one who finds Yehuda!'s rendition to be bland?
He sings it nicely and it's pleasant to listen to but what's so amazing about it?

On a side note, is it Avremelized or Friedified?

  12. avremel has it his style but his singing is too clipped for my taste i need a more sustained energy

besides yehuda i like as a original

though the arrangement on avremels is great

  13. the first one and by far the most hartzig is Leibele Haschel it was his song I am not sure how everyone else can just take his song.

Moshe Laufer sold the song to Leibele Haschel and then resold it to others???? how does that work?? Just Because someone is niftar doesnt mean that you can recycle his music.... without even a zecher.....

    This is absolutely a disgrace!

  17. Dudu sings the high so effortlessly that it sounds less hartzig. Its breathtaking.

If it's not worth taking credit for, it's probably not worth saying!
